The
CUENTOS Foundation gives voice to the stories (cuentos)
of our diverse communities through the collaborative art
programs we create and facilitate. We utilize artistic strategies
for reflecting upon, expressing, documenting, and sharing our
transforming cultural heritage and traditions.
Our storefront studio at 6321 North Clark is a think-tank and
center for the community-organized programs conceived with residents
of the ethnically rich neighborhoods around us, whom we serve.
Cuentos' work crosses boundaries. We are both
interdisciplinary, mixing dance, music, poetry, theatre, visual
arts, and the humanities, and cross-cultural, bringing together
Latinos, Asians, Middle Easterners, Europeans, Africans, and African-Americans.
Cuentos opens doorways to global understanding,
participation, and building relationships. Strong personal and
cultural identity and the ability to positively engage and communicate
are the keys
to empowering youth, families, and communities with the capacity
for participating in positive social transformation.
